When companies consider the implementation of a labor management system, the common perception is that the process is time and management intensive and expensive. Labor Performance's (LP) methodology flips this paradigm upside down. Most LP implementations take only 60-90 days and require only 2-4 hours per week of management time.
How do we do it? There are two key differences between our approach and that of our competitors. First, Labor Performance is a Software as a Service (SaaS). It is designed with the user in mind so the GUI is highly intuitive and easy to use. Because we are a service, IMS will handle all the configuration and setup for you and there is little, if any, software code that needs to be written. So, from the software side, the cost is minimal and the process fast and easy.
The second reason has to do with our approach. There are two philosophies when implementing labor standards. The first is the use of Engineered Standards and the second is the use of Modeled Standards. Engineered Standards require the work of an industrial engineer to measure and develop the ideal process for the operation. This is an excellent approach, but generally requires a substantial up front investment, and depending on the size and complexity of your organization, a serious commitment of time from management. The Labor Performance software can support this approach and we partner with industrial engineering firms to provide this service, if desired.
A faster approach, which is highly suitable for smaller (less the 100 workers) and process dynamic organizations is the use of Modeled Standards. With Modeled Standards, you measure what you are currently doing and create standards from each process based on historical performance. Employees are then held accountable to this standard. For companies that have historical data, the development of these standards can be accomplished in a few weeks. For companies that do not have this data, Labor Performance will provide simple tools and work with you to collect this data over 30-60 days and develop the standards.
The end result of our service and modeled standard approach is a very low cost entry, short time to implement, and a very fast return on investment.
